Global Blocklist

Check this article if you'd like to block certain leads from ever getting imported in any of your campaigns

Updated this week

When you import new leads, our system always checks them against the blocklist. If you want to block specific leads from being imported into any of your campaigns or contacted within the campaign, you can use the Blocklist feature in the settings. Watch the full video here.

You can block the entire domain or a specific email using the following format:

  • mycompetitor.com (block all leads on that domain)

  • [email protected] (block specific email account)

Blocklist

The blocklist tab is applied both during the uploading of lead data and across ongoing campaigns.

You can make a Google sheet, CSV, or add them manually to the Blocklist tab by clicking on the Import button(our sample file).

In the first column of your file, please add a first row named "Blocked", followed by the emails or domains you'd like to block.

  • Leads in the Blocklist tab will not be imported to any campaigns

  • Leads in the Blocklist tab will not be contacted even if they already exist in the campaign within the workspace. We will also automatically prevent emails from being sent to these leads if they are subsequently added to the Blocklist tab.

After you upload your file, you'll be able to manage entries in the blocklist.

  • Domain Search: View blocked domains only

  • Download CSV: Select emails or domains in the blocklist and export them to CSV

  • Timestamp: Timestamp of when the email or domain was added to the blocklist

Using Google Sheets

The Google Sheet blocklist is checked only when importing or uploading leads. To block emails to leads already in your active campaigns, please upload the leads to the Blocklist tab instead.

Here are the steps to add Google Sheets to the blocklist:

  1. Make a new Google sheet or check our sample sheet here, and in the first column of your sheet, add a first row that says "Blocked", followed by the emails and domains you'd like to block.

  2. Delete columns B-Z to ensure you have only the Blocked column in the file

  3. Click on the "share" button on the top right of your Google Sheets page.

  4. Click "Change" below "Get link"

  5. Change permissions to "Anyone with the link as Editor"

  6. Click on "Copy link" and paste it back into Instantly.

When you finally click "Set block list", Instantly will notify you of the number of rows that have been imported, and inform you that these are now saved.

Automatically add leads to the blocklist

You can automatically add leads to your blocklist based on the lead status or if their reply contains certain text. This helps you save time and ensures you don’t accidentally contact these leads again. It is available with the Hyper Growth and above plans.

Here are the steps to set up AI Blocklist Triggers:

  • Go to the Account Settings -> Blocklist -> AI Blocklist Triggers

  • Switch the toggle to add unsubscribes to the blocklist automatically

  • Select the status of the lead to block them

  • Or add text triggers. You can use multiple trigger phrases separated by a semicolon(;)

Add leads to the blocklist from Unibox

You can also add leads to the blocklist from Unibox. Here are the steps:

  • Go to Unibox

  • Open the reply from the lead you wish to block

  • Click the three dots(...) in the top right corner

  • Select Add to blocklist. This option will also remove this reply.
